Sorry Bill for the delay-(we are so busy in Mahone Bay you know-ho-hum). Facts are ok. Seagull Pewter is in Pugwash and Amos Pewter is in M.B. It is difficult to keep Upper Canadians straight on all these important maritime facts. See you -Peter.

Bill- I was a bit shocked to see us at the head of the parade in your photo exhibit on the web. Marg did an excellent job on the pics. I would have liked to see many of the guys that I have not seen since graduation like Jobson, Curleigh, Lawson, Patterson, Bisnaire, Taylor, Mathieu, Walsh, Cossette, Couillard, Caldwell, Wharton and many more. You did a great job putting it together. I was glad that Marcel Belanger made it. Lahaie's wife must be well up there in years and still looks spry. The other younger woman is her daughter or granddaughter? Ken Gallinger is another guy who does not show up at RMC. Carriere and Bourbeau are others I have not seen. Is Jacques Desjardins still with us?
We are poking along here as usual. No plans for any big trips or other excitement. You must have heaved a sigh of relief on Sep 16?
Emil

2002/05/26
Bill,
Thanks for your note. We have decided not to go down to St Jean for all those 50th anniversary activities. It's a long and fairly expensive trip and we do hope to be in Kingston next year. You in the east are fortunate to have such easy access to both Kingston and St Jean.

Larry came over to Suzie's house and we had a really nice evening. He did not have his spouse with him but told us that she is Norwegian and they met on board his ship when they were in port somewhere in Europe. They have two children, I believe.
He had a career as a flyer in the Navy and after 20 or so years left to work in computers at Insurance Corp of BC from where he retired close to ten years ago.
His health is not the best as he had a heart attack a while back which affected him to the extent that he is not keen to travel. He does seem to want to stay in touch and I will certainly get together with him when we are next in Vancouver.
You deserve many plaudits for all this work you are doing for the 50th. Do you need a financial contribution? (No problem yet, thanks; I'll yell for help if need be - WBL)
Emil

2002/04/25
Bill, do you have a phone number or email for Washy? We are going to Vancouver next week to visit our daughter Suzanne and her husband and I would like to give Larry a call and perhaps get to see him for the first time since CMR.
Emil

2002/04/10
Bill- I think I will be going down to St Jean for Sep 13. Joining the Old Brigade as a separate group sounds a bit odd. Would we not have to participitate with the OB in some way at RMC to realize this? If not, I say OK. I don't think joining the OB is a huge issue.
Regards
Emil Bizon

2002/03/25
Bill-I didn't know you were undertaking this major task! My hat is off to you.
My details are correct as you have them except there is no accent on the 'E' in my name as I was never French. As for the list of our class, I don't know who "Hough" could be and he has a much lower number. 3686 Is it Guy Alain or Alain Guy. I'm having trouble remembering that name. Gregg's first name is Bryce, not Bruce. Alain Romano is deceased, I don't know about Louis.
I'll have to see if I'll be able to attend this thing. It wasn't in our plans.
Emil

Thanks for the corrections, Emil. Bill

Bill,
As you said, it is hard to believe that fifty years have passed since we arrived at CMR. I am sorry to be unable to attend the Old Brigade Annual Dinner, and tell lies and stories relating to those memorable years.

Health reasons (not mine) prevent my attending. If there is any chance of receiving the tie and beret I would be delighted - just send me a bill. (Will do - WBL)

Please pass on my regards to those who attend. My thoughts will be with you.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Salut Bill,
A bientôt
Jean E. Carrière (3778)

2002/04/14
Salut Bill,

- WBL

Hi Bill.
Well done. After all the debate over the last two years it seems we really don't have a choice - we join the OB 50 years after our year of entry. Of course that doesn't mean we can't march with our class at RMC next year. Nancy & I will be there. Cheers. Art.

Hi Bill,

Yes, I did have the angiogram last month, with a kind of a bad news-good news outcome. I have two 100% blockages in two main arteries and all remaining blood vessels are clear. But bypasses are not recommended or beneficial because the blockages are located at points immediately leading into the two sections of my heart which were toasted during my two heart attacks. Hence, no surgery! The cardiologist indicated that there were signs other blood blood vessels were starting to compensate a bit for the blockages. So future treatment is to continue with medication, regular exercise and healthy eating. I joined a Cardiac & Fitness Club (weekly) and Pat and I take daily 2 mile walks in the arena, occasionally the mall. We'll move outdoors when the weather improves. I'm planning on at least another 20 years on this ticker.

I see from the CMR website that you will be absent for a couple weeks - assume you are off on a holiday. Bon Voyage. Trust you and Marg are keeping well.
(Yes, we're off to see Heather and family in England for a few days, then to Italy for 4 weeks - Bill)

All the best, Murray

2002/11/25
I am not doing too badly. Had another heart hiccup 3 weeks ago - Emerg docs diagnosed it as another heart attack but the next day my Internist doc reviewed the tests etc. and changed it to severe angina. Only 3 days in ICU this time. I saw the Cardiologist in Sudbury a week ago and the outcome is an angiogram Jan 9th (unless there is a cancellation before that) and at least 2 bypasses to done sometime after. The waiting game continues. The sooner the better!
Cheers,
Murray

2002/09/27
Hi Everyone,
Got a full debrief from the Doc (Internist) yesterday regarding all my tests and overall he was quite pleased with my heart status and progress. There is still one area, a possible partially blocked small blood vessel leading into a main artery which may need a stint inserted. An appointment is being made for me to see a cardiologist in Sudbuy for a second opinion and possible angiogram. Hopefully it will be soon. All in all I'm feeling pretty good and gradually picking up on my stamina and ability to take on some chores. Slowly but surely as the doc says.
Pat is still looking for some relief from her trigeminal neuralgia problem, bouts of which have increased in frequency and length the last few weeks. She saw the neurologist in Toronto on Monday and is being referred to a neurosurgeon to discuss options other than medication.
Cheers, Murray

Sorry for the delay - beret size to be 7 1/2. See you next Friday.

Hi Bill and Class of '52 Classmates,
I support joining the Old Brigade at CMR's 50th Anniversary in St. Jean. I like the idea of joining at the start point of my military college life and of joining in person with other CMR classmates, whether or not they had the opportunity to attend RMC. This idea of joining during a 50th Anniversary celebration was not a consideration during Class of '57 2002 vs 2003 discussions. I am planning to attend the CMR event and hope a formal Old Brigade ceremony is part of the activities. I am also planning to join in with my Class of '57 classmates at the 2003 induction in Kingston. I don't think joining in 2002 will take away from the event in 2003.

I am not clear on this but my understanding is that the CMR Class of '52 entrants will be added to the Old Brigade in 2002, whether or not they want to and whether or not they are present for the ceremony. Or does one have to apply? I guess the same situation and question applies to the 1953 (or whenever) Class of '57 entrants.

Hope to see you in St. Jean in 2002 and/or Kingston in 2003.

Best regards to all.
Murray

Hi Bill,
Just returned from 3 months in FL last night and trying to get back into a normal routine, including answering a few emails. The info as you have recorded is correct.
Received from Al Roberts the info about the CMR get-together at St. Jean on 24 May. Am planning to attend, along with Dean Wellsman, after an RON in Kingston. Can you tell me if this event includes significant others.
Hope to attend the 50th, but it's turning out to be a busy month.
Best regards to you and Margaret,
Murray

Bonjours,

Bill

Yes, it was quite a story, best told over a beer. In fact there are two stories about Sea King helicopters "helping out" CMR back in 1970-72 when I was CO of HS-50 Squadron. Perhaps we may need a second beer! (I feel a thirst coming on - WBL)

Dear Bill and Marg!

Well, we finally have arrived and are now in our second week in Colima. So much has happened that I will try to put them in some sequence. A cousin of the owner of one of the largest hotels befriended us which resulted in finding a modest casita, meeting some key people in the town and educational community and generally orienting us to learning Spanish and adjusting to the Mexican way of life. We are really enjoying ourselves and are seriously considering staying for the long term.

Now,--DON´T forget to hang your stockings up! New Year, y Feliz Navidad!

I thought we would drop you a line to let you know our progress so far. We have just visited Graceland. It was a lot different than I thought beforehand. It was worth the complete tour. By the way, we said hello to Elvis for you! Then we took in some blues and jazz.
We are having a great time and will keep you posted as we move along.
God bless!

2002/04/05 Hi Bill, About the entry in the old brigade at CMR in Sep for all our class seems like a possibility. Until this idea came forward, I had thought of entering the old brigade with our grad class of 57 in the Fall of "03". However your idea has merit and I am willing to reconsider and go with the idea of entering this Fall at CMR. I imagine our class website will keep us informed. Cheers, Jeep

Bill

Everything went better than expected. The surgery was moved up to Friday morning from the evening and, when they got 'in' they found they didn't have to do the fusion. They were able to clean up a lot of chips and reset things without that, so I feel truly blessed. Barb brought me home Saturday midday. The staples will come out in 10-14 days and I can then get back to light (desk) duties, I'll see the surgeon again in 6 weeks, but expect a complete recovery and return to normalcy, including being able to fly.
Thanks for your support.
God bless, Terry

Headquarters Grand Army Of The Republic
General Orders No.11, WASHINGTON, D.C., May 5, 1868

The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet church-yard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.

We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us, for the purpose among other things, "of preserving and strengthening those kind and fraternal feelings which have bound together the soldiers, sailors, and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion." What can aid more to assure this result than cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their breasts a barricade between our country and its foes? Their soldier lives were the reveille of freedom to a race in chains, and their deaths the tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. All that the consecrated wealth and taste of the nation can add to their adornment and security is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.

If our eyes grow dull, other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain to us.

Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon a nation's gratitude, the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan.

It is the purpose of the Commander-in-Chief to inaugurate this observance with the hope that it will be kept up from year to year, while a survivor of the war remains to honor the memory of his departed comrades. He earnestly desires the public press to lend its friendly aid in bringing to the notice of comrades in all parts of the country in time for simultaneous compliance therewith.

Department commanders will use efforts to make this order effective.

By order of
John A. Logan, Commander-in-Chief
N.P. Chipman, Adjutant General
Official: Wm. T. Collins, A.A.G.

Bill

Firstly, my apologies for taking so long to respond to your original call. I did, in fact, compose a reply that I attempted to send through the system at work, but we were having difficulties with our wireless network and I suspected it may not have gotten through. I probably should have resent it later, but let the normal press of events get in the way.

I'm not too sure if I'll be able to make the reunion, although I'm sure I'd enjoy it - even though I didn't graduate. Both work and my health have real potential to interfere, the former for obvious reasons and the latter because I'm expecting back surgery sometime later in the year. I'm seeing the neurologist Tuesday, and expect to have a firm schedule then.

So, I'll keep abreast of developments through the site, and whatever you find time to provide, all the while keeping my fingers crossed that, somehow, it'll work out. One thing I've come to believe over the years is that things do work out the way they need to, and in keeping with our commitment to them. I will look forward to hearing from you.

Sincere regards,
3763 Terry Jones

13 May, 2002,

Dear Bill,

It was nice to talk to you awhile ago. I have been following yours and other fellows' emials with great interest. Nice to recpgnize some of the names.

I am having a bit of trouble with my old clunker of a computer so I am presently in the process of getting up to speed with a new one.

My typing skills are lacking and I still feel comfortable reverting to the old fashioned way of communicating.

I wanted to make sure that I let you know that I won't be able to make it to the festivities in September 2002. I know from experience the work involved in organizing a function such as the one in September. An accurate head count - early - is important.

If you need any financial help, let me know, as I am willing to contribute to any expenses that are involved.

I have been going through some old pictures and came across a few from my one year at CMR. If you are putting together anything of a commemorative pictorial nature, let me know. For instance, I have a group picture of "B" Flight, taken in the dormitory. (Good idea. Please send me anything you have, for a collage type display. Put your name on it so I can return it - WBL)

Good luck with the "Big-Do"!. Remember me to any of the group from "B" Flight that you are in conversation with.

Thanks for contacting me. I can't believe that fifty years have slipped by. A lot of water has passed under the bridge in that time.!

Best regards,
Brian

Hello William,

Hi Bill;
I have just returned to Victoria after a lengthy absence. Please accept my apologies for this tardy reply to your E-Mail.
During the summer I spend most of my time "up island" well removed from computers and telephones.
Unfortunately, Carol and I will be unable to attend the 2002 reunion at C.M.R. Circumstances and family commitments make it impossible to attend. Please give my regards to all who do attend. I still image them in their youth. It is a good remembrance. Despite changing course on leaving C.M.R., I do not regret the personal benefits that I acquired by exposure to the military structure and the camaraderie developed by being a component of the class of '52.

Back Exercises.
I do four different exercises for the lower back. One of the exercises is referred to as the "pelvic thrust". It is this exercise that calls for all females to leave the room during its performance. I recommend a demonstration by a young nubile nurse. You will find it both informative and stimulating.
Regards,
Sandy

Hi Bill !

What am I doing in Guatemala is a good question!

As the Bank Manager prohibits me to even mention the word retirement, I am still relatively active and for the last few years mostly in Central America, that is the other part of the reason for being here.

For now I only have very short-term engagements so we are ready and willing to relocate just about anywhere.

Apart from that, all the members of my family are well; I am in good health and enjoying life.

I sincerely hope it is the same for you, your Family and Friends.

I am curious to know what happened to our CMR companions. Thanks to the E-mail addresses, which you were kind enough to transmit to me, I can get in contact with some of them.

Please do not forget me if there are any publications or general information circulating.

My address and telephone number in Brossard are still valid although I seldom answer the phone.

Thanks again

I reiterate all my appreciation and thanks.

Hi Gerry,
The rooms you take care of yourselves.
For the class activities (Friday dinner and Saturday visit / cruise) I am planning to send out a registration form / payment request by mid June, for payment by early August (by cheque - I'm not organised for credit cards).
A separate registration form will be issued by the 50th anniversary committee for the general weekend activities (Friday meet and greet, Saturday golf, dinner-dance, etc.).
The Old Brigade kit will be sold by kit shop personnel at the Hotel Gouverneur Friday evening before the dinner and hopefully during the weekend (they can probably accept credit cards).
Let me know if you see any problem in this - I'm a neophyte at this type of organization.
Thanks and regards,
Bill
